Sun Bear Medicine Wheel is NOT the Medicine Wheel of any Native Nation (Tribe), but comes from a Vision given to Sun Bear by Grandfather.

Second Gift from Spirit Keeper of the South

[Leaping Salmon],
Title Page of The Salmon by A.E.Gathorne-Hardy, c.1898 from Univ. of Washington
Library - The Image Bank
This "Leaping Salmon" drawing, and the one I enlarged for the Background on this page are 102 years old! They are from a small book, The Salmon by A.E.Gathorne-Hardy, ©1898, printed by Longmans, Green, and Co., for their "Fur, Feather and Fin" series.   The background drawing is titled "A Blank Day." Perhaps the author caught no Salmon on that day. I did not have and could not find a Salmon background. After leaving the problem up to "Grandfather" these images were sort of just dropped in my lap! By clicking on the "Leaping Salmon" picture you can see the other Salmon drawings from this century-old book.

The Stone for Trust is placed half-way between the Stone for Shawnodese, Spirit Keeper of the South and the Center Circle. Learning Trust is another important step in one's Path to oneness with the Center. "Trust" is often misunderstood. We not only must learn to trust implicitly in Creator and His/Her plan and guidance, but also learn who and what to trust and who and what to not trust. Although the who and what applies to all levels, it is especially important in the physical world.

Salmon represents Trust. Salmon Trusts his/her inner guidance to return to the very same spawning grounds where he was hatched. Salmon Trusts that with Creator's help he/she will succeed at swimming upriver against strong currents and leaping up some very formidable rapids and waterfalls. We all need to apply this lesson to our own lives - receiving the Gift of Trust.

Borage (Borago officinalis) is the plant Totem for this Gift. All parts of Borage, seeds, leaves, flowers are edible. Use the flowers and young leaves of this really pretty herb pant as a tasty and attractive garnish for salads and dips, as well as cucumber soup. The leaves have a cucumber like taste.
Borage is rich in potassium and other minerals. It also provides help for a stressful life, being good for the adrenal glands; and promotes the production of milk for nursing mothers. A little borage goes a long ways. Do not use excessively. For more information on the many culinary and medicinal uses of Borage please visit Garden Guides - Borage
From Dancing With The Wheel by Sun Bear and Wabun Wind: "Borage is connected with Trust because of its ability to open up your heart . . ." "Using Borage encourages you to Trust the healing process and the natural order of life."

The mineral Totem for Trust is Lepidolite. To my mind, Lepidolite is one of the most useful and important Medicine Wheel mineral totems. Lepidolite will accept no negative energies of any kind, only positive. It is exceptionally healing and calming, therefore one of the best to use for meditation and connecting. You can lay out a circle of small pieces of Lepidolite ( I use 16 pieces, one for each direction and 3 in between each direction), lay down inside it, and feel the cool, calming energies sweeping over you. No negative energies can enter this circle to disturb you, unless you insist on carrying them in there yourself. Even then, they cannot enter the Lepidolite. Carry soothing Lepidolite with you to stimulate the highest good, and for balancing, confidence, and security.

The color of Trust, in the Sun Bear Medicine Wheel, is Lavender. This color helps us develop a sense of security, faith, honesty, innocence, compassion, and is healing for our inner child.
I also used this color for the word Trust at top and for the image borders. This is as close to Lavender as could be found in the 216 color chart - colors that show the same in most browsers.

About the Font and Font Color on this page: I tried almost every color from white to black, that was the least bit complementary to the background and images on this page. None were as readable as the color I have used here. For Font Face, I tried several, and ended up using Arial Black, thick letters, as this helped the print to be easier to read too. You can download Arial Black if you do not have it on your computer by clicking here.

NOTE: The description of the positions and totems and their meanings given on these pages is meant only as an introduction, and not a complete explanation. Meditate and study further for a more complete understanding.
