O, my luve is like a red, red rose, That's newly sprung in June. O, my luve is like the melodie, That's sweetly play'd in tune. As fair art thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I, And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a' the seas gang dry. Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi the sun! And I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only luve! And fare thee weel, a while! And I will come again, my luve, Tho it were ten thousand mile! Robert Burns
Saint Valentine's Day, a holiday honoring lovers. It is celebrated February
14 by the custom of sending greeting cards or gifts to express affection. The
cards, known as valentines, are often designed with hearts to symbolize love.
The holiday probably derives from the ancient Roman feast of Lupercalis
(February 15). The festival gradually became associated with the feast day
(February 14) of two Roman martyrs, both named St. Valentine, who lived in the
3rd century. St. Valentine has traditionally been regarded as the patron saint of
lovers. All rights reserved.
